Topcon Healthcare announces a strategic investment in OKKO Health, a UK-based software medical device company at the forefront of vision testing innovation. Topcon Healthcare’s lead role in seed funding for OKKO Health underscores a shared commitment to transforming eye care by empowering patients to monitor their vision from home and fostering more timely, proactive engagement with their care teams.
A new era of home-based, personalized eye care
Designed for use on a patient’s personal smartphone, with no need for external hardware, OKKO Health’s home vision monitoring platform combines advanced vision science, data analytics, and gamified user experiences to support ongoing patient self-monitoring between clinic visits. The platform empowers patients to protect their eye health by enabling early detection of subtle changes in visual function and facilitating timely re-engagement with eye care providers when clinical intervention may be needed.
For patients with macular diseases and other chronic eye conditions, OKKO Health provides reassurance between in-office treatments and supports care models shaped by longer-acting injectable and implantable therapeutics. By giving patients an accessible, easy-to-use tool to stay connected with their vision health, OKKO Health enhances outcomes and supports clinic efficiency while helping eye care providers identify patients who require timely evaluation.
“We believe that everyone deserves access to great vision care, and that begins with empowering patients to take an active role in monitoring their eye health,” said Dr. Stephanie Campbell, Founder & CEO of OKKO Health. “OKKO Health’s vision tests, delivered through engaging puzzle games backed by strong vision science principles make it easy for patients to track their real-world visual function. With Topcon Healthcare’s support, we’re excited to expand access and help ensure patients see their providers when it matters most.”
Topcon Healthcare’s investment in OKKO Health advances its broader Healthcare from the Eye initiative, which leverages ocular data and its cloud-based platforms to identify and monitor both ocular and systemic disease.
“OKKO Health’s unique technology strengthens the link between patients and providers in the moments that matter most, between visits,” said Ali Tafreshi, CEO & President of Topcon Healthcare. “We see this as a powerful extension of our mission to deliver proactive, data-driven, and personalized eye care. With OKKO Health, patients are more engaged in their care journey, and clinicians gain valuable visibility into vision changes over time.”
With its U.S. launch, OKKO Health offers a new way for clinicians to stay connected to their patients’ vision between visits, supporting more responsive care and advancing the shift toward patient-centered, longitudinal disease management.
