Myopia is an increasingly widespread condition among children. Based on estimates*, by 2050 more than 4.8 billion people will be myopic and, of these, as many as 940 million will develop a severe form. In Europe, its prevalence in the 0-17 age group is increasing sharply, at a rate of 3% among children under 6 years old, and reaching 20/30% among the 11-17 year-olds. This is the age group in which there is widespread and prolonged use of electronic devices like tablets and smartphones – a warning sign that calls for serious consideration of the means of prevention and safeguarding vision, starting in early childhood.
LOOKKINO – the LOOK line of optical eyewear for children – is a proven avant-garde choice in this setting, thanks to frames designed from their inception to support the visual growth of the youngest children and to also be ideal for modern lenses designed to control the progression of myopia.
The Lookkino Myopia Management project stems precisely from this awareness: to support the visual health of children with frames that abide by three core characteristics required of all manufacturers of myopia lenses. First, precise centering of the lens with respect to the pupil to ensure the effectiveness of the myopia lens in its functional optical zone; second, absolute stability in the three points of support (nose, right ear and left ear) to avoid micro-movements that could compromise corrective function; third, adjustment of the pantoscopic angle, to adapt the inclination of the lens to the child’s posture and facial physiognomy.
All Lookkino frames are researched, designed and crafted in Italy in compliance with these parameters, making them a tangible, reliable and safe solution for children’s visual well-being.
Furthermore, exclusive materials, like NIL and XINOX – non-toxic, hypoallergenic and 100% recyclable – are combined with adjustable temple tips, flex hinges, adjustable temples and an ergonomic fit that is the result of more than 30 years’ experience in the design and engineering of pediatric eyewear. Every frame is a class-I medical device, in compliance with European regulations, to guarantee the safety and health of young wearers.
