Powering Our Planet: EssilorLuxottica Sustainability Week 2026

Caring for the planet is a shared responsibility at EssilorLuxottica. Through its Eyes on the Planet program — especially the Eyes on Carbon pillar — the Company is actively tackling climate change across its entire value chain, in line with its science‑based emissions reduction targets.

These targets are aligned with the Paris Agreement and were validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in November 2024. By 2030, the Company aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and selected Scope 3 emissions by 25%, compared to 2022 (base year). To meet these decarbonization targets, EssilorLuxottica has set clear carbon‑reduction priorities across its value chain. Among them, the accelerated deployment of renewable energy stands out, led by a dedicated cross‑functional task force bringing together core business functions.

Expanding Renewable Energy Across Global Operations

Marking Earth Day 2026 and reinforcing the importance of renewable energy, EssilorLuxottica continues to scale up renewable energy solutions across its global operations:

  • Since 2013, the Company has installed more than 115,000 photovoltaic panels across 40 sites in 19 countries.
  • In 2025, new on-site renewable energy projects were deployed in five countries (China, Germany, Italy, Laos, Thailand), bringing total installed capacity to over 62 MW. This is equivalent to supplying electricity to more than 25,000 families and heating to more than 2,500 homes.
  • These new installations generate approximately 31,450 MWh of renewable energy per year. Across all production sites, total avoided emissions now reach 50,000 tCO₂
  • EssilorLuxottica’s site in Agordo, Italy, is significantly contributing to these results with its 5 MW biomass plant, producing about 25,300 MWh of thermal energy each year. Using residual biomass from local forests, it supplies up to 90% of heating needs and up to 50% of cooling needs for the site.

Alongside on-site generation, EssilorLuxottica continues to expand renewable energy sourcing globally. In 2025, the Group sourced more than 1,000,000 MWh of renewable electricity through Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs). As a result, renewable energy — both on-site and sourced — met 65% of its global energy demand in 2025.

EssilorLuxottica’s commitment to reducing emissions extends well beyond its manufacturing sites. Its global retail store network of 18,000 stores is playing a critical role by improving energy efficiency through awareness and technology investments. Thanks to these efforts, pilot stores have already achieved a 15% reduction in energy use.

These initiatives are complemented by innovative solutions, such as eco-designed store elements and AI‑ and IoT‑based systems, that enable real‑time optimization and scalable impact across thousands of stores.
